Damon Alcorn took this culmination of all of his Orion images combined into one. This is about 90 minutes total time of exposure.all images were 30 sec to 60 sec subs from the last 2 years. All were taken with his Antares 6" LDA Achromat and 20D at F/6.5 and semi APO filter.
Damon Alcorn took this images on Nov 11, 2007 with an Antares 1529 LDA Achronmat telescope at F6.5 and Canon 20D camera.
Damon Alcorn took the above images of Jupiter with a ETX90 and SCA4-2 camera on June 2, 2007.
Sinus Iridium or the "Bay of Rainbows" is the crescent shaped region near the top center of the image. Copernicus is the prominent crater in the lower left. Image taken by BASS member Mark Wiley on April 27, 2007 with an Orion EQ 120 Refractor and a Celstron NextImage webcam. Stacked and aligned with Registax4.
Image of Mare Nectaris and the Altai Scarp, the most prominent multi-ring lunar feature visible from earth. Located in the northwestern part of Mare Nectaris is the 100 km wide crater Theophilus. Marc Wiley took this image from his backyard in Longmont, CO with an Orion EQ 120 5 inch Achromatic refractor and a Meade LPI imager.
Located in the constellation Auriga is the emission and reflection nebula IC405, the Flaming Star Nebula. The nebula is illumiunated by star AE-Aurigae which is embedded within the nebulosity. The nebula is located at RA 5h16.2m, Decl +34°16' and is approximately 30x20 arc-min across. You'll need about 75X magnification, a 12 inch or larger scope, dark skies, and UHC or O-III filter to see its faint glow. Cheyenne Wills took this image from the Cactus Flats North observing site in the Pawnee Grasslands about 6 miles east of Briggsdale, CO. He used a Takahashi TOA 130 telescope with focal reducer (FL 860mm f/5.73), on a Losmandy G11 mount, ST-4 autoguider, and a Canon 20Da digital SLR. He took two 10 minute exposures at ISO 400 and then aligned, stacked, and enhanced them with the GIMP image program.
